    Chapter 26- Can’t Take Y’all Nowhere…damn!



    “This is definitely a break from hot wings,” said Akilah as she nibbled on her fettucini alfredo.  Arianna began to laugh. “Unh-uuh!” said Derrick. “You need to quit cutting up, Arianna.” “I can’t help it,” she said wiping her mouth. “Antoine, Reyjah beat the hell out of Darlene, and then when she’s done she says ‘Damn! Can I get some hot wings?’” Arianna explained. “Your girl is out of control!” Reyjah began to laugh. “Damn, Akilah, how come you never let me eat before I sing?” she asked biting her stuffed shells with marinara sauce- lots of marinara sauce. “No, Midori…Miss Thang accidentally “drops” chicken bones down Darlene’s dress!” said Sheila. Ms. Holden chuckled. “They don’t bounce when you laugh, Ms. Holden?” asked Sheila. Ms. Holden laughed again. “Kate, did you step on Darlene’s foot?” asked Akilah. “No, my prosthetic leg has a mind of it’s own sometimes,” she said while eating a breadstick. The VIP section was having a comedy hour. Reyjah’s hand was on Antoine’s leg. She squeezed it. He took her hand in his. “No, Reyjah tell Antoine what happened in the bathroom,” said Arianna. “Oh..man, we made Julia lick the commode…potty mouth!” she said raising her glass of seltzer water. “Eeew,” said Deuce, “My dad used to clean toilets for a living,” he said cringing. Kate held his hand. “It’s okay, babe, he’s a mailman, now.” “You are so cute, Kate!” said Derrick. “It’s okay, Deuce, I’m gay.” “I noticed,” said Deuce. The whole table laughed. “Did they ever find out what’s wrong with her?” asked Salvador. “It’s issues…mainly with her dad not being around, and he blames her for what her mom did…it’s sad,” said Reyjah. “However, he did pay for Antoine’s medical bills, and for the repairs to the Porsche, so toast to Mr. Chang!” Everyone clinked their glasses. Ms. Holden gave Antoine a look. “Bell?” he said to Reyjah. “What’s up, ant?” she asked. “Where’s your ring?” The whole table was silent. “Uhh ohhh…” said Derrick. “I guess it’s somewhere …in the house,” Reyjah stuttered. Dammit! She thought. All of a sudden, Antoine got down on one knee. “What are you doing, Ant?” she asked looking around. “Is this Candid Camera?” “Damn, with the cameras!” said Akilah. Antoine took Reyjah’s hand and kissed it.  Sheila and Midori giggled. “I should have done this in front of your friends the first time,” he said. “Maybe this whole situation wouldn’t have happened.”  “We bring her luck!” said Arianna. “Yes, you all do, and incidentally, you brought me luck, as well. I’m alive, and I can walk.” “Anytime, Antoine!” said Salvador. “Reyjah, I love you so much, and without your faith, I probably wouldn’t have made it. You proved to me far too many times, that as you say, you indeed are the ‘thorn on my side’. I wan to make that permanent, will you marry me?” Antoine pulled the platinum, sapphire and diamond ring out of his pocket. “I slid it off your finger when you were napping; Ms. Holden got it engraved.”  The inscription said: ‘My Endless Love, I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You, I Wanna Be With You, Forever.” He slid it on her finger. “Good use of song titles, Ant,” she joked. “So, will you?” he asked. “Hmmm, let me think..” said Reyjah. “Will you just say ‘yes’, I know his damn knee has got to be hurting,” said Akilah. “Yes, Antoine, I will marry you!” She was rewarded with a passionate kiss. “Let me guess, you all knew, right?” said Reyjah with her arms around Antoine’s neck. “I didn’t know,” said Sheila. “That’s why Reyjah didn’t know,” said Kate. They all laughed. Reyjah and Antoine looked in each other’s eyes.
