Inner Children - Chapter 14
When they stepped out of their cars, Antoine saw that she had taken her hair down. It was tousled and he so much wanted to run his hands through it. Her porch light came on when they wee at the front door. “Girl’s gotta have security,” she said. “I agree, “ he said against her ear. She opened the door and flicked on the light. Her house was magnificent. It had an oriental theme. “Here, let me take your jacket,” she offered. Antoine bent down so she could reach him. She hung his jacket on a brass coat rack. Her living room was huge. She also had a ‘54’ Sony TV, and a huge piano. “I bought regular furniture and had it reupholstered with this Asian fabric that I bought in New York,” she said. “The rest I bought at flea markets and little Asian markets in the Village,” she explained as they sat down. She laid her legs across Antoine’s lap. “Same story, different players, “ she said coyly. He laughed. She dug into the couch until she found the remote control. She turned on the TV. “Cartoons, yay!! Gotta love that SpaceGhost!” she said happily. “I thought I was the only person that liked SpaceGhost,” said Antoine in disbelief. He was so handsome. “Nah, that’s my show,” she declared. Antoine could not believe hoe comfortable he felt around Reyjah. Her down-to-earth personality made her even more attractive. The women that he slept with were always boring and superficial. “Oh, yeah, I collect kaleidoscopes,” she said pointing to her mantle. “I like all the pretty colors,” she said in a kid’s voice. He laughed. He began tickling her feet. “HAHAHAHAHAHEEHEEEHEEE!” she squealed. He loved it. “Do you mind if I go change?” she asked. “This dress needs to rest.” “Oh, go right ahead,” he said. She stood up and ran upstairs to her room.
“Sheila, he’s in my house,” said Reyjah quietly on the phone. “Girl, your not..” “No, I am not going to sleep with him and I just met him.” “Good because, when he called the salon to get your phone number, a hotel number came up on the Caller ID.” “What?” “Yeah.” “Oh well, we’re just friends anyway, I don’t think he likes me like that.” “Don’t even stress, girl, you can have a fine friend as hard as you work.” “Yeah.” “Well, I’ll see you at work, holla.” “Bye, girl.” Reyjah thought for a moment. “Hotel room, huh?” she said.
She came out back wearing a pale blue Victoria’s Secret camisole with chinoseiere pajama pants of the same color. She also had a Mason Pearson brush in her hand. He was laughing at the cartoon. She sighed. She really liked the guy, but if they were to be only friends, so be it. Never the less, she trotted down the stairs. He saw her descend and lost his breath. He loved the way her jet-black hair tumbled down her back. “You missed it, Zorak just got zapped by Space Ghost!” he said with tears of laughter. She sat down on the floor between his legs. She held the brush above her head. ‘Will you brush my hair for me?” she asked sweetly. “Sure,” he purred. The moment he had always been waiting for. When she felt the brush massaging against her scalp, she closed her eyes. His hands were raking through her silky locks. “Hey, Antoine?” she said softly. “Yes?’ he replied as he brushed the underside. “Can I call you Ant?” “Only if I can call you Bellissima.”
