One Heckuva Girl - Chapter 18
“Ant, guess what?” “What? Today’s my day off, and I am spending it with you. Cancel all plans and come over my house. Your world revolves around me today.” *Laughter*
She was still in her pajamas when he came to her house. When she opened the door, she gave him a hug. “My sweetie!” she said happily. She smiled at him. He was wearing a white Polo shirt and loose fitting jeans. He even had on Timberlands. “That’s a good look for you,” she said, taking him by the arm. “What are you up to, woman?” he said curiously. “Friends need to spend time together don’t they?” she said in that cute little NY drawl. He sat down on her couch. She fell backwards on it and kicked her legs straight up. “I made you brunch,” she said. She flipped over and went to the kitchen. She had made him a handsome omelet filled with bacon, cheese and mushrooms. “It looks good,” he said smiling. She gave him a fork. “Taste it!” she urged. He took a nibble. His face said it all. “This is wonderful,” he said. “Thank you,” she said. “There’s grape juice in the fridge, I’m gonna go upstairs and change.” She gave him a pressing kiss on the cheek and ran upstairs. He set the plate of food on her black, Asian coffee table and with the remote, turned on the TV. He found the Cartoon Network and continued eating.
“Damn, I haven’t checked my messages,” said Reyjah after her quick shower. Wearing a strapless, white bandeau bra, and string bikinis by Victoria Secret, she hit the ‘play’ button. “Rey Rey, this is Akilah, don’t you believe in returning phone calls?” “Reyjah, this is mom, just calling to see how you were…” “Reyjah, this is Kate Bigalow, just called to see how the party went…” Reyjah smiled. She hit the ‘speaker’ button oh her phone. “Hello?” “Akillaaaah!” “Heffa, don’t you believe in returning phone calls? I’m mad you were slumming, singing at Giovanni’s and what not.” “Girl, I hadn’t planned on singing that night, I was just doing a service.” “So, can you come sing at Kamikaze tonight?” “Yeah, I’ll sing, as long as I get free Buffalo wings.” * Laughter * .
She came down the stairs wearing a white Adidas sport halter with bright blue stripes. Her drawstring pants matched and were made of a shiny nylon. Her shoes were coordinated as well. She had parted her hair diagonally and slicked the rest into a low ponytail. She wore silver hoop earrings and her makeup was minimal, eyeliner and lipgloss. Her blue eyes twinkled at the sight of him watching cartoons and laughing. She slumped over her couch and tumbled over it. “Watcha watching?” she said nudging him. He slung his arm around her and squeezed her. “Smurfs!” he said. She giggled. “That was my nickname back home…because I always wear blue,” she explained. Antoine began tickling her. She squealed. When she finally broke free she playfully swatted at him. “Come on, let’s go!” she said. She grabbed her white Adidas jacket from the coat rack. “Where are we going?” he asked, walking behind her. She gave him her keys. “You are taking us to the San Diego Zoo, and you are driving my vehicle,” she informed. “And then tonight, you are going to Kamikaze with me to hear me sing.” “You’ve got everything planned out, don’t you?” he said smiling, his face very close to her. She could smell the scope on his breath. She gave him a kiss on the nose and raced out her front door. “Don’t fight it, baby,” he said to himself.

“Your car rides nice,” said Antoine. He sank back in the driver’s seat of her Navigator. “Thank you, dah-ling,” she exaggerated. She ran her hands across her defined abdomen she adjusted her belly rings. “Did those hurt?” he asked. “Not really, hell I figured if I can have my knee cut open nine times, I can go through anything,” she declared. He laughed. He truly enjoyed her companionship. She was so silly, and she always brought sunshine to his clouds. “Do you mind if I sing, Antoine?” she asked. “My girl, Nelly Furtado is on the radio?” “It’s your car,” he retorted. She stuck his tongue out at him, and turned up the volume. “Your beautiful, that’s for sho…you’ll never, ever fade..” she began singing along. “I’m like a bird, I’d only fly away..I don’t where my souls is…I don’t know where my home is…” her voice was so beautiful and she made it look so easy. She would point at him every now and then and smile. He wondered if deep down inside, she meant it.

Reyjah and Antoine had an amusing time at the zoo. She loved the zebras, he liked the fish. “You need to see my lionfish,” he said. “You own a lionfish?” she asked as they sat down on a bench. “Yeah, $6,000.”
“Good gracious, geez those modeling jobs keep you laced, don’t they?”
Yes, they pay very well, have you heard from the magazine?” “Not yet, but I’m not gonna stress about it, whatever happens, happens, you know?” She nudged his shoulder. “Like us,” “What do you mean?” “I mean, we come from total polar opposites but yet it seems like we’ve been friends for like 10 years.” She got up from the bench and did a handstand. “I feel like we can tell each other anything.” Antoine was silent. She went back to her feet. She turned her head when she heard music in the park, nearby. “Come on,” she said taking him by hand. “I feel like dancing.”
